New Opening: Egress Window Installation, 36×48 Tilt & Turn Window

Our customer owns a rental property and wanted to add a bedroom in the basement. There was no existing window, so we had to open the wall. Granted, the structural engineering costs are higher than when one can work with existing window openings. But it also comes with the freedom to choose where you want to place the new window opening. In this case the owner wanted to center the egress window below the window aisle. We double checked with the city building department to make sure we do not violate any codes and got the green light and permit. When we first inspected the room and saw the considerable size of the room, we suggested a bigger window which allows for more light to come in. So instead the standard size of 30x48in, we installed a 36x48in Tilt & Turn window. It turned out fantastic: the gloomy room was transformed into a bright and airy bedroom. Furthermore it helped to rent out the place at a higher price. A classic win-win situation and another happy customer.

Timber Box Installations

Timber box projects are fun, not only for us who install them but also for the home owner. :) They are becoming more and more popular throughout the U.S. Egress window sizes start normally at 30x48 (standard) and do not end at 48x48. Deeper sizes like 36x60 egress windows with tilt & turn functionality are a fantastic (and cheaper) alternative to a full blown walk-out basement with patio doors. The timber box can be extended to the sites, so it's look and feel resembles a terrance. Integrated flower beds are possible and add a personal touch.

Before & After_Well Exchange

This is a project before and after. We love being able to meet customer needs wants. This customer runs a MMA studio in his basement. His biggest complaint was the lack of sunlight coming in through his windows. So we proposed a simple well exchange with a small but effective twist: the placement of the window well 3 inches lower which allows for more sunlight. Furthermore we exchanged the grate to one that grants greater light exposure and offers a more spacious feel. The incorporation of white drainage rock helped to meet our customers desire for a brighter studio.
